ODLAN Launches New Digital Resilience Program with support from the Digital Citizenship Contribution Program
The Ontario Digital Literacy and Access Network (ODLAN) is proud to announce the launch of their latest project titled ‘Digital Resilience: Addressing the Rise of Transphobic Online Hate through Community-Based Research.’
ODLAN will be contributing to the Digital Citizenship Contribution Program (DCCP) by gathering data on how Two Spirit, trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming (2STN+) professionals in the nonprofit sector experience transphobic online hate, gaining an understanding of the strategies used to address transphobic online hate, developing recommendations for addressing transphobic online hate, and determining the feasibility of creating a tool for tracking and reporting anti-2SLGBTQIA+ online hate. ODLAN would like to extend their gratitude to the DCCP for their support. This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.
“As we examine the challenges of online misinformation and disinformation, civil society organizations and marginalized communities are on the frontlines of the impacts of the rise of hate and harassment. The 2SLGBTQI+ community is one part of the population most at risk when it comes to online hate. This is why initiatives like ODLAN’s Digital Resilience project are so important. It is only through research like this that we can understand the challenges faced by this community, and trans professionals in particular. This will help support them to participate meaningfully in Canadian society online without fear of hate and harassment.”
The Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage
