Digital Safety Procedural Policy

Digital Safety Toolkit for Non-Profits

The Digital Safety Toolkit is a free, customizable tool for small and mid-size organizations to support them in protecting their various digital assets (website, social media, personal information of staff, etc.) from bad actors. This is a collection of living documents that we regularly update to reflect evolving digital safety practices. Older versions are available at the bottom of this page for reference.

Delivers a ‘first aid kit’ style resource for how to navigate the most commonly found online attacks, such as doxxing, cloning, hacking, phishing, etc. This crisis response plan includes procedure for how to respond to active emergencies, as well as prevention and recovery for specific scenarios.

A template for organizations to document and manage online incidents that have impacted one or more team members. This form will provide a record of the circumstances and how to monitor for future issues.

Provides step-by-step guides for organizations and individuals on how to protect themselves with the latest safety options. Material is organized by type of social media platform, with screenshots of how to increase security measures.

A template for organizations to have explicit consent agreements with their team members on exactly how they would like to be digitally affiliated with the community. Specifies the type of social media and how a person would like to be identified. Can be used for general onboarding and for event-specific needs.

Some notes on how to use the Digital Safety Toolkit:

  • These are meant to be living documents both at your own organization and in its home at ODLAN. We will be making updates to the template regularly to reflect new insights, best practices, and community feedback.
  • We recommend you download the document off Google Drive so as to customize your own copy for your organization.
  • A yellow highlight indicates a space where the document should be edited to be customized to best suit your organization
  • While we believe these document should be shared and reviewed with everyone at the organization, it may be most practical for those in the roles of Executive Director, Human Resources, and employees working in Tech & IT roles to work collaboratively to customize the policy at the outset of implementation.
  • These documents are quite detailed and may feel overwhelming at first. We recommend reading them in full before making any customizations to ensure a clear understanding of the contents.
